Tradovate Order Cancellation Basics

Cancelling orders in Tradovate is simple on the surface, but if you cancel the wrong leg of a bracket or disable your OCO by mistake, you’ll create execution problems. This guide covers every method Tradovate offers to cancel orders cleanly without breaking your trade.

Cancelling Orders From the Chart

On the chart, every working order shows as a price line. To cancel it:

  • Hover over the line
  • Click the X

This works for:

  • Limit entries waiting to fill
  • Stop orders
  • Targets
  • Bracket legs

If you don’t see order lines, check your visual settings or read your chart settings guide.

Cancelling Orders From the DOM

The DOM is faster and gives you batch cancellation buttons. These are key:

  • CXL Buy – cancels all buy-side orders
  • CXL Sell – cancels all sell-side orders
  • CXL All – wipes every working order

If you’re scalping or moving quickly, DOM cancellation is the safest choice.

Cancelling Orders From the Order Entry Panel

If you don’t use the chart or DOM, you can still cancel through the order entry panel:

  • Click the order in the “Working Orders” list
  • Select Cancel

This method is slower but precise.

Canceling a Bracket vs a Single Leg

This is where most beginners get confused. Tradovate treats bracket cancellations differently depending on what’s removed.

ActionResult
Cancel entryEntire bracket cancels
Cancel stopTarget stays (no OCO)
Cancel targetStop stays (no OCO)
FlattenEverything cancels instantly

If you accidentally remove one leg, your bracket loses OCO protection. That means your stop won’t cancel if your target fills, or vice versa. This is one of the fastest ways to flip into the opposite position by accident.

Cancelling Scale-In Orders

If you scale in with multiple limit orders, each one shows separately. Cancelling one:

  • Does NOT cancel the other entries
  • Does NOT affect your existing stop/target
  • Does NOT modify your ATM unless the order fills

Be sure you’re clicking the right line—don’t wipe all scaling levels by hitting CXL All unless you actually intend to reset.

Cancelling All Orders During Volatility

When the market gets stupid, you want speed. Use:

  • CXL All from the DOM
  • Flatten if you’re in a live position

Flatten is your panic button. It closes your position and kills every order in one click. If you need to exit NOW, flatten is the correct move.

Canceling Problem Orders That Won’t Move

Sometimes Tradovate refuses to let you drag or adjust an order. Causes:

  • The order already filled
  • You’re grabbing the wrong leg
  • The ATM is trying to protect a bracket
  • Your workspace is desynced

Solution is simple:

  1. Cancel everything
  2. Reset your ATM strategy
  3. Re-enter the trade clean

Don’t fight a stuck bracket—just reset it.

Final Thoughts

Order cancellation in Tradovate is simple when you know which method to use and how it affects ATM and OCO behavior. Learn to cancel correctly from the chart, DOM, and panel so you don’t break your brackets or leave stray orders hanging in the market.
