Tradovate DOM Settings
How to customize the Tradovate DOM layout, columns, and colors so you can see size and execute orders without fighting the platform.
Opening DOM Settings
On any Tradovate DOM window:
- Click the three-dot menu on the DOM.
- Select Settings.
If you are not sure what the DOM actually shows yet, read DOM Trading Basics.
Choosing Which Columns to Show
Most traders focus on a simple, readable layout:
- Bid Size
- Bid
- Price
- Ask
- Ask Size
- Position / PnL (optional)
In the DOM settings panel, enable only the columns you actually use and hide the rest. Same idea as the clean layouts in Simple Chart Layout.
Adjusting Colors and Highlights
Important color options inside DOM settings:
- Bid / Ask background colors
- Last traded price highlight
- Working orders (limit, stop)
- Filled orders
Keep contrast high enough that you can see size and orders at a glance, especially when using keyboard shortcuts from Tradovate Hotkeys.
Row Height and Font Size
If the DOM is too cramped or too zoomed in, change:
- Row height
- Font size
Make sure prices and sizes are readable without leaning into the monitor.
Order Display Options
Key DOM options that affect live execution:
- Show working orders on price ladder
- Show OCO brackets when using bracket orders
- Show average price for your open position
- Show PnL (on or off depending on preference)
This ties directly into your order setup from Tradovate Order Entry and Tradovate Bracket Orders.
Submitting Orders From the DOM
Standard behavior in Tradovate (check your settings to confirm):
- Left-click on bid side → limit buy
- Left-click on ask side → limit sell
- Right-click → usually cancels orders at that price level
Always verify in SIM first. Combine DOM clicks with your hotkeys from Tradovate Hotkeys.
Saving the DOM Layout
Once the DOM looks the way you want:
- Save the current layout/workspace in Tradovate.
- Use that workspace every session instead of rebuilding windows.
Keep it consistent with the rest of your platform setup from Tradovate for Beginners.
