How to Add Indicators in NinjaTrader

Simple walkthrough for adding indicators, adjusting settings, changing colors, and saving chart templates in NinjaTrader.

Opening the Indicator Window

Adding indicators in NinjaTrader is dead simple once you know where the menu is. On any chart:

  1. Right-click the chart.
  2. Select Indicators....
  3. This opens the full indicator list and settings panel.

Adding an Indicator

Inside the indicator window:

  1. Scroll or type to find the indicator you want.
  2. Select it.
  3. Click Add.
  4. The indicator now appears in the right-side panel.

Keep your chart clean like in Simple, Readable Chart Layout .

Adjusting Indicator Settings

Every indicator has adjustable inputs and visual settings. Common things to change:

  • Period length
  • Line color
  • Line thickness
  • Plot style
  • Panel (same chart vs separate panel)

Keep settings simple. Indicators should support your execution, not cover the chart. That ties into the execution principles from Execution vs Idea.

Removing an Indicator

  1. Open Indicators... again.
  2. Select the indicator on the right panel.
  3. Click Remove.

Saving Your Indicator Setup

If you don’t want to redo your indicators every time, save the layout:

  1. Right-click the chart.
  2. Select Templates.
  3. Click Save....
  4. Name the template something obvious like clean-setup.

Use templates along with saved workspaces from NinjaTrader Workspaces .
